Born and raised in Southern Maine, Ryne Varney first played golf at the age of 13.  Despite hitting a lawyer’s wife in the foot during his first round, he was instantly hooked.  In his first full season he went from a beginner to an 8-handicap, while playing 36 holes almost every day of the summer.  Competing for Lake Region High School all 4 years, he earned a Varsity Letter three times.  His junior year, the team had an 11-1 record, with the one loss being the result of a 6th tiebreaker.  They won the Western Maine Championship in a rout and finished 3rd in the state.  Ryne earned the Rick Worthley Memorial Golf Award for a season where he won 23 out of a possible 24 points for the team, never losing match play.

Following high school Ryne competed for Syracuse University, where he was the Golf Club President, Team Captain, and earned several individual tournament titles.  During this time, he was able to work at his home course Naples Golf & Country Club in Naples, Maine and Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse, New York.  At Drumlins, Ryne was able to work under former PGA Tour Player Joe Tesori and 6-time CNY PGA Teacher of the Year Linda Mulhern.  These opportunities cemented the desire to become a PGA Professional.  Following college, Ryne moved to the North Shore of Chicago to work at Ravinia Green Country Club in Riverwoods, Illinois, under the tutelage of Illinois PGA Professional of the Year Jim Homes.   Ryne has also served as the First Assistant Golf Professional at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, Head Golf Professional at Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club in New Durham, New Hampshire, and most recently as the Head Golf Professional at Oswego Country Club, in Oswego, New York. Beginning in February 2020, Ryne is the Director of Golf at Cape Neddick Country Club in Cape Neddick, Maine.

All of these opportunities have taught Ryne one thing: golf needs to be simpler.  Whether you are an amateur who is picking up a club for the first time, or a seasoned professional who is looking to gain your stroke back, playing the game needs to be less complicated to enjoy.   His instruction method looks to fix the underlying cause of the problems with your game, while teaching you the easiest way to achieve your goals on the golf course.   It’s his responsibility to determine your true swing, give you the physical tools to utilize it, and create a practice plan that you can follow.  It’s your responsibility to get to the golf course.  Doesn’t that sound much easier than what you have been doing?

Ryne has earned Certified Professional status from the PGA of America for his exemplary work in Golf Operations.  He is also Certified Golf Fitness Instructor with the Titleist Performance Institute, US Kids Golf Certified Coach, and a Member of the Positive Coaching Alliance.  Additionally, he holds fitting certifications with all major club manufacturers and True Temper and KBS shaft companies.  Ryne uses V1 Golf and Edufii to deliver the best lesson experience for every student.  With a continually growing knowledge base, Ryne guarantees that you will benefit from hundreds of years of golf instruction, while staying at the forefront of new methods to playing the game.
